My mighty Leo wants to come out and play; however as of late I find my life in retrograde: reflective, introverted, and weary of time passing. I reminisce on my youth and am nostalgic for the good 'ol days of classic rock. I remember being a 90’s teenager wanting to be a hippie, I wore bellbottoms and went to concerts hoping to live the thrill of a 60s-70s revolutionary.
However nostalgia tends to forget the ugliness of reality. Circumstances weren’t necessarily better before, sure there are highlights, but no matter the era we always face huge social injustices. Today, we are more fragmented and polarized than ever, raging against the same machine, using our hashtags as protest banners. Social media can be platform for people to rise united, yet it can also instigate isolation and division.
We live in a Leo Superstar Arena, where self-realization is paramount, and profile pics can serve up a healthy dose of ego. But at what cost?
Experiencing Florence and the Machine at Osheaga was a highlight. One moment she asked everyone "put your phones away and raise your hands," in an instant it felt as if we were all transported into a pre-cellphone era - casting spells together. Water blazed down on us as we jumped in the air, hands high, singing: “the dog days are over!” It felt like a baptism, thousands surrendering to the collective force, without our phones clamouring to take up the spotlight. Our shared attention was transcendental. Minutes later, addiction set in, it was too magical not to capture. So when she crowd surfed, phones went up instead of hands to grasp her. Nowdays, touching and making contact with each other is awkward. Nowdays not having your phone feels paralyzing.
While I struggle with social media addiction too, I am also interested in how it can touch us deeply. Feed our souls, give us cause to shift perspective and do something extraordinary. So help me out, ♡/Share this post then immediately put down your phone and for one minute wherever you are, scream, shout, let go, dance, sing, meditate, talk to someone, DO SOMETHING that makes you feel AWKWARD … FEEL what it is to be revolutionary in your world. We don’t always have to have an audience to make a change.
Inner intimacy moves outwardly. I think inside we all want to be hippies. The Leo new moon is about taking up centerstage - #doyou - which means DO something that comes from within. Florence is a different person on-stage, she goes from introverted to a preacher. Surprise yourself, take stage if you are often behind the scenes, and hold back if you are an extraverted hottie. DO something weird, awkward, different, but then DO NOT post it, keep it for yourself. Can you Do You just for You?
What moments can you recall without your phone? Does posting or taking photos about your life really make the moment better?
